Located in south central Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula, Homer is a 45-minute flight or a scenic five-hour drive from Anchorage. At the end of the road system, Homer (population 5500) is the largest of several small communities nestled around Kachemak Bay. The snow-capped Kenai Range dominates the south side of the bay, while the 4.5 mile Homer Spit protrudes from Homer on the north side. No roads exist to get from one side of the bay to the other, hence residents and visitors alike rely on boats and planes to take them beyond the end of the road.
