Spring is here and with it two of Homer, Alaska’s bigger seasonal events: Taste of Homer 2024 and the Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival. Both occur during the month of May and are very popular with residents and visitors alike.
People tend to think of Alaska as a summer destination but, at least here in Homer, there are things to see and do all year ’round. Fishing, boating, sight-seeing, shopping, dining, and lots of special events.
In fact, as mentioned above, two of our bigger annual events are coming right up. Taste of Homer and the Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival are our way of welcoming spring.

2024 Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival
Kachemak Bay is home to miles of shoreline and important inter-tidal habitat. Consequently, in early May, we see over 100,000 migrating shorebirds of 25 different species. Easy access to the bay’s beaches gives Homer stunning, front row seats to this annual event. Is it any wonder we’ve a festival for this wonderful, annual phenomenon?
The 4 day Shorebird Festival celebrates the spring migration of Alaska’s shorebirds with over 100 family-friendly events. Attendees to the festival will find a smorgasbord of fun and informative activities. Seminars, boat tours, guided bird walks, crafts, art, dinners, glacier hikes, and so much more. In fact, the annual Shorebird Festival is the largest wildlife festival in the state.

Taste of Homer 2024
People may not automatically think of fine cuisine when contemplating an Alaska adventure but, at least in the case of Homer, they definitely should! The Homer dining scene is one that abounds in fresh and locally-sourced ingredients. Yes, there’s an abundance of freshly caught and diversly prepared seafood – but that’s most certainly not all!
You’ll also find farm-to-table fare, world-class chefs, food trucks, cafes, bakeries, locally crafted beer, wine, spirits, and more. Homer’s diverse culinary landscape offers an option for every palate and there may be no better way to discover this than at Taste of Homer.
Taste of Homer is an annual, 10-day culinary festival showcasing the best of Homer’s food scene. Attendees can enjoy restaurant specials, a food truck festival, and tours of farms, breweries, wineries, and others. The festival also includes a variety of seminars and classes. Cooking classes, guided pairing sessions, and seminars on sustainable food, global cuisine, and related topics.
