Homer is known as “The City Of Peonies” for a very good reason. The colorful blossoms bloom here from late June through August and sometimes even up into September. Further, our extended summer days, fertile soil, and wealth of glacier-fed breezes help to make them even more colorful and fragrant.
Peonies are an extremely popular flower, worldwide. Their lush, soft blooms, delicate petals, and enchanting fragrance are the perfect embodiment of romance and femininity. No wonder they are so coveted as wedding flowers!
As Alaskan peonies mature in July, a time when they are unavailable anywhere else, they see great demand. Consequently, Homer is home to 25 flourishing peony farms and the annual Homer Peony Celebration!
Homer Peony Celebration 2024
The first Homer Peony Celebration was held in 2020 and the event has gotten larger every year since. Peony Celebration 2024 takes up an entire month – July 1st through the 30th! July visitors to Homer will have the opportunity to take part in a variety of fun, related events and activities. Farm tours, food experiences, special products, artistic activities, and other fun attractions.
The big draw, of course, is Homer’s collection of peony farms. Homer peony farms open their doors to guests during the festival, offering tours and special events to celebrate the season. Come experience some of the most beautiful, working peony farms in the world. Places like Alaska Perfect Peony and Scenic Place Peonies, and many others.
The celebration also lets you enjoy a self-guided walking tour of more than 20 in-town peony gardens. Gorgeous!
